Alan Sparhawk with Trampled by Turtles – Get Still

Alan Sparhawk has reimagined “Get Still” with Trampled by Turtles for his upcoming collaborative album “With Trampled by Turtles” due May 30th via Sub Pop. The track initially appeared on last year’s “White Roses, My God”, Sparhawk’s solo debut created while grieving the loss of his wife and Low bandmate Mimi Parker.

This new version abandons every electronic element for acoustic instruments, transforming the song into folk wisdom that sounds like it’s been passed down through generations. Where the original featured programmed beats and synthetic squalls, Trampled by Turtles provides banjo, stand-up bass, and harmonies that well up around Sparhawk’s voice. It’s the same scraped-raw emotion delivered through opposite sonic approaches.

For Sparhawk, revisiting “Get Still” meant understanding its emotional core: “You want to be true to what you’re singing.” The acoustic arrangement strips away the technological barriers between artist and audience, making the ache of loss more palpable through its very directness.
